West Fork Foss is a bit overgrown and messy. I've noticed this on a previous trip as well. For such a popular trail it always surprises me. The boothpath between Angeline and Big Heart and heading to Chetwoot is in good shape. I met 3 parties heading out to the West Fork Foss trailhead. I was a bit nervous about the section on the north side of Iron Cap due to the deaths in that area. I also could not find good pics or videos of what it is like (and I failed to capture it as well). I followed the advice and traversed at 5400ft. Going counter clockwise the route is well marked. The tricky section there is steep heather with a runout that may land you in some trees if you are lucky. I took it easy and with my light pack it all went fine. There are a few spots where you safely can take a break on the tricky part. The route on the mapbuilder overlay of CalTopo is accurate. Around the tricky section there is endless boulder hopping. Of course all kinds of things can go wrong in boulder fields. I managed to crack the screen of my iPhone in there. I visited [[Tank Lakes]] (ran into 2 more parties) and then headed back to Chain Lakes via the south side of La Bohn. I love the views in that section. The Overcoat Glacier seems to be getting very small though. Wandered around Chain Lakes for a bit looking for pretty rocks. Then headed up to [[La Bohn Lakes]] and out via the Necklace Valley Trail. I was hoping to head up [[Mount Hinman]] but it was very warm and my knee was hurting so I decided to take it chill. Back at the car 8pm. I think this was the first time I actually did the East Fork Foss trail in daylight! I've been here a handful of times, so that was kind of a fun experience.
