I generally use trail running shoes ( [[Hoka Speedgoat]]), but one problem with trail running shoes is that the sole is so cushy that they are not great for edging (using small footholds) on a scramble or traversing snow. I don't want to carry heavy boots only for that purpose, and dedicated climbing shoes are not great for mixed terrain.
I use a pair of Scarpa Mescalito for this purpose. It's a nice, durable shoe. The pair weights 800 grams. They are marketed as *approach shoes*. Unfortunately, approach shoes are not commonly found in outdoor stores, but you can order them online at Zappos.
