I use the Silva Trail Speed 5XT (the new revision would be a Silva Free model) as headlamp. This headlamp should be much more well known than it currently is, in particular among people who do long activities during the night. The key reason that I got this headlamp is that I get headaches when I have a heavy headlamp on my head for hours. A heavy set of batteries is unavoidable if you are active for hours in the dark, and I do not want these batteries hanging from my head. The Silva system has a fantastic lightweight lamp on your head, and a separate battery that you can put in a pocket on your body or backpack. This works extremely well for me. Also, if you are running the headlamp will not wobble on your head.
