2019-10-10 - West Fork Buttermilk

- Overnight trip with tent

- Day 2: 8.3 miles and 1400ft gain
Larch trees are excellent here, though this hike may the longest distance from trailhead to first larch tree ;) .
The trail is mostly clear of trees (maybe 5-10 trees down)
Creek crossing (close to parking) is a little tricky as reported in earlier reports also. On the way out I just walked through the creek to avoid the hassle.
I carried snowshoes but didn't need those.
I carried crampons and I think those would be required for Star Peak, not necessarily for Courtney Peak.
Microspikes were handy on the trail, which is icy here and there.
Deer hunt has started and hunters were heading towards Oval, so be careful out there.
