Snow and trees
Snow and trees

Report

I was hoping to get to Diamond Head, but unfortunately the weather did not collaborate today. It was close to whiteout conditions after the last trees at the Elfin Lakes Shelter and it did not seem worth the effort and risk.

It was a fun outing in the snow, but there were essentially no views. I hope to visit the area again to get the views.

The route with less avalanche risk (compared to the summer trail on the NW side of the ridge) was marked when I visited. This marking clearly needs regular maintenance, so I am sure the route marking is not always present.

I parked a bit down the road because it started to get more snowy and I did not want to risk trouble. This worked out fine.
